Sudden Cardiac Arrest - The Silent Killer

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is caused by an electrical malfunction of the heart called ventricular fibrillation, during which time electrical signals that normally induce regular, coordinated heartbeats suddenly go away. Defibrillation, an electric shock across the heart is the only effective treatment stopping the arrhythmia and allowing a coordinated heart rhythm to resume.

Every year, SCA strikes 350,000 people and less than 5 percent survive.

Time is of the Essence!

Surviving SCA is largely dependent on how quickly the victim is defibrillated. Access to conveniently located automatic external defibrillators (AED's) allow defibrillation to occur much earlier. Survival rates of over 50% have been consistently achieved with the implementation of properly designed programs.

What is Heartshock?

Emergency Management Resources (EMR) offers an AED Management Program called "Heartshock"™ since we are devoted in making your organization a compliant and a safe working environment. Most Federal and State regulations require certified training, record keeping, AED maintenance, and a licensed physician to oversee your AED management program. As your AED Program Manager, we have plans that provide:

  • Use of an AED in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training;
  • AED program record keeping
  • AED inspection and maintenance services
  • Medical oversight of your AED program
  • Critical Incident Stress Debriefing
